Poor crash test results prompts C1, 107 and Aygo safety upgrade

The Toyota Aygo and its twin models from PSA, the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107, will get improved safety equipment by July after a disappointing result in safety body Euro NCAP's latest crash tests.
All three models have recently been facelifted but failed to match the results achieved by their predecessors in the less stringent tests of 2005 by gaining just three stars compared with the four previously awarded.
Euro NCAP said: "It is clear they have failed to keep abreast of latest safety developments and standards."
It added that the three current models lack basic items such as side impact airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard equipment.
In response the manufacturers have agreed to add side airbags, ESC, passenger seatbelt reminder, Isofix, and top tether in rear outboard seats as standard by next July.
