The start point for the best source of fleet information

RAC returns to accident management

Date: 20 May 2013   |   Author:

The RAC has returned to the accident management sector with the launch of RAC Accident Management, a service aimed at larger fleets and backed by a £2m investment in IT systems.

The firm was active in the sector previously, but former owner Aviva decided it wasn't a priority, a decision reversed by new owner Carlyle Group in the wake of its acquisition of the brand in summer 2011.

"Going back 10 years, RAC was very prominent and the new owners see it as a growth area so we are putting a stake in the ground," RAC head of accident services Jim Monteith told BusinessCar.

"The people we're working with will be coming from other [accident management] firms, so it's down to us to convince them of the benefits of RAC."

RAC claims its strength of brand has allowed it to "secure strong commercial terms in the supply chain that are then passed on to fleet companies", and the new service will also include risk management tools.

Repairs will be carried out by a national network of 150 approved repairers, and RAC will cover all business vehicles including HGVs.

"We have brought our extensive fleet management experience, industry knowledge and buying power to the design of this new service," said RAC chief executive Chris Woodhouse.
