Renault and Orange partner to explore 4G

Date: 12 December 2013   |   Author: Will Stretton

Renault and Orange have partnered in an effort to explore new applications of 4G high-speed connectivity in vehicles.

As part of the agreement, Orange has introduced 4G at Renault's research and testing facilities, allowing both parties to test the uses of high-speed mobile technology in real-life situations such as virtual office, cloud gaming and video conferencing.

The ultimate aim of this venture is to ensure that motorists may access their professional and personal digital spheres from their vehicle at any given time and at fast rates.

Rèmi Bastien, head of engineering innovation at Renault, said: "We were able to benefit ahead of time from a high-speed Long Term Evolution network and from Orange's expertise, with an opportunity to take advantage of the network for our prototype of the connected vehicle of the future."

An initial test is underway on the Next Two prototype, based on the Renault Zoe, that is to be presented at the Le Web'13 conference in Paris, December 2013.
