The start point for the best source of fleet information

Suzuki to source fleet business in-house

Date: 29 August 2013   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Suzuki is planning to bring in more corporate business by supplying cars to its non-automotive arms. National corporate sales manager Andrew Wale told BusinessCar that the firm planned to increase its fleet presence by getting the company's non-car businesses on board, which include boat and motorcycle manufacturers.

"The other business area is our affinity businesses. All our major suppliers and boat builders, motorcycle dealers etc. We have a good take-up by our partners."

He added that this would be one of a number of channels in which the company intended to drum up new corporate business, citing: "Motability, local business through Suzuki contract hire and affinity, then major contact hire companies - in particular public sector."

He continued: "75-80% of [all fleet] business now goes through the top 10 leasing companies. We started the process with the S-cross but it's about getting ourselves on that map. The biggest challenge is getting the customer to recognise that we're capable and getting them to want the car on their fleet."

Wale also hit out at the Nissan Qashqai, the main rival to the new S-cross, claiming that its previously impenetrable residual values were not sustainable going forward due to the amount of cars that have been sold.

"Qashqai has sold in such large volumes - how sustainable is that going forward? What we want to do is get [customers] to divert from one or two of their core brands and get their mix right."
