Vmoves calls for clearer end-of-contract damage guidelines

Vehicle inspection and logistics firm Vmoves is calling for clearer end-of-contract wear-and-tear guidelines and a national inspection training standard to back them up.

The company analysed five years' of wear-and-tear charges, across 76,000 end-of-contract inspections, and revealed a total cost of £19m - or £253 per car.

Group managing director Sandra Ogden said: "The fair wear-and-tear standards set by the BVRLA are very clear, but we believe the consistency and quality of vehicle inspections across the industry still varies greatly.

"There will always be variables such as weather and light conditions that inspectors have to contend with, but we believe the process and approach to inspections could be more consistent through improved training."

She added that Vmoves is supporting new national training inspection standard, which is being developed by fleet training specialist Paul Vellen. "We have had initial conversations with Vellen and what he is proposing will benefit inspection companies, inspectors and asset owners alike," she said.
