Car-share leader Zipcar is seeking to expand the use of its technology by offering the smart card system it uses on its by-the-hour rental vehicles to fleet operators looking for a better way to manage the likes of pool cars.
"We'd put our kit into other people's cars, if a big fleet wanted swipe-in swipe-out technology for their cars," Zipcar for Business boss Andrew Edgar told BusinessCar. "If people want to get away from signing keys in and out, they can rent a box and the technology, but they still take responsibility for the car."
Zipcar users have a smart card they swipe against the windscreen that unlocks the car, and the keys are left in the glovebox.
