A third of drivers uninsured for business

Date: 24 July 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

A third of business drivers aren't insured for business mileage, according to a survey of 2000 business drivers released by Masternaut. Additionally, these uninsured drivers completed an average of 4708 business miles a year.

Business drivers surveyed by the telematics firm also felt that they don't have adequate driver driving, aping similar findings by the Institute of Advanced Motorists from last week, while 40% claimed they are unaware that their employers are obliged to provide training by law.

A fifth of the respondents also said they have had an accident while driving for work. When asked who would be liable for an accident, 80% said they would be responsible.

"Driving for work is recognised as one of the most dangerous occupations and these findings clearly demonstrate a vital need for employers to educate staff on safe driving practices", said Martin Hiscox, CEO of Masternaut.

"It raises a bigger issue for employers about not having visibility of their mobile workforce, so they can ensure they are safe and can put steps in place to spot problems and deal with them", continued Hiscox.
