The start point for the best source of fleet information

Autoglass: Wear and tear repairs avoidable

Date: 26 March 2014

Many fleet managers are paying for unscheduled repairs because they don't carry out regular maintenance checks, according to an Autoglass survey.

The firm spoke to 250 fleet managers and found that 54% said 'general wear and tear' was the cause of unexpected repairs, but only 27% performed regular maintenance checks between services, which were used by 58% of respondents to identify problems. Some 13% relied solely on drivers to report issues.

The study also found that 36% could not estimate their annual maintenance and repair costs, and 40% were unable to say how much unscheduled vehicle downtime was costing their employers.

Van fleets were more likely to give trouble, with some 33% fleet managers reporting unscheduled repairs, compared with 16% for cars.
