BMW broadens range with efficient engines

BMW's 5-series will gain a new 2.0-litre diesel engine later this year that will bring the CO2 start-point for the range down to 109g/km.
It's available in the 518d in 150hp form and in the 520d in 190hp form. With a manual gearbox, both cars have CO2 of 114g/km coupled to official fuel stats of 65.7mpg.
However, the 520d can be specified with an eight-speed auto gearbox that lowers CO2 to 109g/km.
The 518d saloon has a P11D price of £30,210, while the Touring is at £32,535. The BMW 520d Saloon and Touring have P11Ds of £31,910 and £34,235 respectively OTR.
Meanwhile, BMW is also adding new engines to the 2-series coupe and 4-series convertible ranges.
The new 228i is powered by a 245hp 2.0-litre petrol and is capable of 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds with an official fuel figure of 42.8mpg. The 4-series convertible gains a new entry-level engine in the form of the 184hp 420i.
There's also a 218hp 425d convertible, with CO2 of 138g/km and a fuel stat of 54.3mpg. It is priced from £44,485.
