BT Fleet sets up lower-CO2 engine remapping service

Date: 28 February 2014   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

BT Fleet has launched an engine remapping service for cars and vans designed to cut emissions and improve economy.

The programme follows the roll-out of the same technology across 24,000 of the company's commercial vehicles on its Openreach fleet.

The move returned an average increase in economy of 15% and a 25% reduction in emissions - savings the company claims can be had by those who buy into the new service.

The modifications start at £250 plus VAT and can be booked in at a BT Fleet garage (there are 64 in the UK) or arranged at homes or workplaces.

The company said it would check to see if vehicles were compatible with a remap in advance and contact drivers a week after the work had been completed to check if they were satisfied.

The firm claimed that the cost of the remap could be reclaimed in fuel savings inside six months, although driver and company taxation would still be set using the vehicle manufacturer's official emissions levels.
