Business travellers: Trains are dangerous for exposing sensitive information

Date: 14 October 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Nearly seven in ten business travellers have pinpointed trains as the number one danger zone for expos ing sensitive information when out of the office.

In a survey by workspace provider Regus, over half (56%) of the 3659 business travellers questions cited cafes as high-risk hotspots, as well as hotel bars and lounges (55%) and aeroplanes (30%).

Three quarters of those polled believe that others overhearing mobile phone conversations was the most likely scenario while confidential printed documents and open laptops were identified as easy targets for snoopers by over half of the respondents.

"Privacy remains a huge concern for workers on their daily commute, and also for the thousands of mobile workers who call into cafés during their working day," said Steve Purdy, managing director of Regus. "Increasingly, they are seeking a professional alternative to working in public places."
