DVLA reduces cost of tachograph

Date: 27 October 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

From the end of October, the price of driver tachograph cards will fall by £6 to £32, the DVLA has announced.

The Government said it reduced the pricing after public consultation and it part of its commitment to "deliver savings to the taxpayer." The changes and will come into force from 31 October.

The cost of a tacograph falls from £38 to £32, while the price of a provisional driving licence has dropped from £50 to £34 and it will cost £14 to renew driving licences online after 10 years, down from the current price of £20.

The DVLA claims the cost savings to tachographs will save £3.58 million over the next decade.

According to the DVLA, the agency is currently renewing all fees and the reduction in driving licence fees is the first stage in the review. Other fees under review include vehicle first registration and duplicate registration certificate fees.

The DVLA recently abolished the physical tax disc. From the start of this month, vehicles are no longer required to carry the paper disc as vehicle taxation moved to an online-only system in an attempt to save money.
