The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has won the fleet service company of the year prize at the 2014 ACFO awards.

The Government body beat off more than 20 other nominated service providers by securing the most votes. It was praised for its engagement with fleet operators over the ongoing implementation of a range of online solutions.

"The DVLA recognised that the introduction of online services was a major but welcome move for fleets in reducing administration, but simultaneously accepted that it was vital that system functionality was easy to use and delivered benefits," said John Pryor, ACFO chairman.

"Over almost 18 months, the ACFO board has been in dialogue with the DVLA on the various initiatives. Additionally, DVLA managers have attended ACFO meetings and seminars to keep members informed as to the progress of all online service," said Pryor.

Mercedes-Benz won the fleet car of the year award for the first time, with its A-class, while its arch-rival BMW scooped two awards - the Green Car of the Year award for the i3 and Environmental Initiative of the Year award.

Ford's Transit gathered the Large Van of the Year award for the fourth year in a row and the 18th time in the history of the awards, while the Volkswagen Caddy won the Small Van of the Year category.

Motoring organisation AA's 'Think Bike' campaign took the Fleet Safety Initiative of the Year award, while the awards raised £1899 for Diabetes UK through the raffle.
