The Energy Saving Trust (EST) has launched a new green driver training programme for businesses known as Ecodriving.
The scheme replaces the organisation's previous Smarter Driving service but differs in that training is now offered from external driver training companies as opposed to directly from the EST, broadening the organisation's remit.
The courses will be run by Driving Standards Agency-registered fleet trainers, all of whom will have undergone their own course with the EST, known as Train the Trainer.
Lessons will follow the previous Smarter Driving format of eight drivers a day over 50 minutes each or bespoke programmes specifically aimed at cutting fuel consumption.
A total of 35,000 corporate drivers undertook the former programme over four years, which resulted in an average 15% drop in fuel consumption on the day of training.
Manager of the Ecodriving scheme, Bob Saynor, said: "The new scheme allows customers to choose between many different training programmes. This gives businesses the chance to participate in programmes that best match their needs and requirements as an organisation - for example, short duration focusing purely on efficiency, or longer duration that includes more on safety."
