Nissan is to return to the lower medium car market with its new Pulsar model.

As reported by BusinessCar earlier this year, the Japanese manufacturer will target the fleet market with its revival of a five-door hatchback, which it last produced in 2000.

Details surrounding the vehicle's specifications have been kept under wraps until its official unveiling on Tuesday, May 20.

It is believed the new car (see teaser picture above) will feature engine and specification ranges echoing its Juke and Qashqai ranges, so 1.5- and 1.6-litre dCi diesel units and the firm's 1.2-litre DIG-S petrol engine are likely to feature.

The new vehicle, which will be built at the firm's Spanish factory, will sit below the popular Qashqai crossover and will square up to the Ford Focus.

A spokesperson for Nissan, said: "The Pulsar will be released in the autumn for the UK and we will be confirming the full range details on May 20.

"But the fleet market is a big part of our business and we hope this latest car will add to the success we have seen with the Qashqai and Juke. The car will be focused on all our customers, including fleet."

"Under its original guise released in 1978, the car proved particularly popular in Asia and Australia, as well as being released in Europe during the early 1990's as the Sunny."
