Honda has unveiled a facelifted version of its CR-V small off-roader, which will come to the UK next spring.

A new 1.6-litre 160hp diesel unit will power four-wheel drive CRVs. The new unit emits under 130g/km CO2 for the manual versions, which Honda claims is an 11% improvement on the previous 2.2-litre diesel.

Honda will also offer a nine-speed automatic gearbox option with the engine. The gearbox and engine combination offers a 20% improvement over its predecessor according to Honda.

A spokesperson for the Japanese car maker told BusinessCar that the engine will power the CR-V exclusively and the company has no plans to drop it into other models such as the Civic.

Two-wheel  drive versions will still be equipped with the firm's 120hp 1.6-litre oil-burner which now emits 117g/km CO2 instead of the 119 of its forbearer.
