Honda has revealed its new HR-V crossover. Details are thin on the ground at present, but the Japanese car maker says it will go on sale in the UK next summer.

No word was given on the specification or pricing, but expect the firm's popular 1.6-litre diesel to be present from launch. In the CR-V it produces 120hp and emits 119g/ km. The smaller HR-V is likely to have better performance in terms of efficiency

Honda claims the HR-V will have "one of the most spacious and adaptable small SUV cabins" thanks to it having its fuel tank positioned underneath the front seats, similar to that of the Civic and Jazz.

The crossover also features a seating arrangement where the second row of seats can be folded completely flat for added load space, which is expected to be much larger than the Nissan Juke, its key rival.

"The HR-V is a very welcome addition to our current model line up, it is a very popular and growing market segment that appeals to both retail and corporate customers," said Leon Brannan, head of car at Honda.
