The start point for the best source of fleet information

Hyundai premieres 1.0-litre petrol-engined 2015 i20 at Paris

Hyundai has revealed its new i20 city car at the Paris motor show which will go on sale in the first half of 2015 as BusinessCar revealed in August.

The new i20 will be equipped with a 1.0-litre three cylinder turbocharged petrol unit producing 120hp. No mpg or CO2 figures were released by the Korean car maker for the engine, but expect more details to emerge closer to its on-sale date.

Hyundai claims the new i20's 1.0-litre unit is the "first of a new generation of small turbocharged petrol engines."

The new i20 sits on a brand new platform that has a 45mm longer wheelbase than the outgoing model.

The city car has been designed and tested in Europe; the intention is that it will move the brand upwards and build a wider customer-base.

Hyundai will be hoping the new i20 can build on the Korean brand's recent fleet success.

At the end of 2013, the firm sat in ninth place for fleet registrations, between Nissan and Citroen, though the i20 didn't figure among the three Hyundai models in the top 50 fleet sellers.

The lower medium i30 ranked in position 23, while the ix35 was at 30 and the i10 city car made it into number 48.

"With our new 1.0-litre engine we follow the trend of small turbocharged engines, which provide great driving performance while being very efficient," Allan Rushforth, COO at Hyundai Motor Europe said.

"The new engine underlines Hyundai's commitment to sustainable mobility in Europe and gives an insight into future drivetrain innovations from Hyundai," said Rushfoth.

The company is also displaying what it calls a "fuel-efficient" version of the i40 at the Paris motor show, featuring a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 48-volt hybrid motor.

It is also showcasing a new i30 powered by compressed natural gas.
