The Nissan X-Trail and Mercedes V-Class both achieved the maximium five stars in the latest round of the Euro-NCAP crash tests.

The testing body praised the X-Trail's crash avoidance systems including Nissan's autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warnings.

Mercedes' V-Class was praised for its adult occupancy rating in which it scored a rating of 93%.

While the V-Class and Vito panel van share underpinnings, Euro NCAP only tests passenger-carrying vans, but the result would carry across to the LCV, Mercedes claim. A Mercedes spokesperson said if the Vito was tested it would also achieve the five-star rating.

"Although the V-Class and Vito platforms are the same, NCAP don't test commercial vehicles. It can be assumed we would see the same results if NCAP did test them though," she told BusinessCar.

Citroen's C4 Cactus scored a four-star rating. The testing body said that it was a "credible result against Euro NCAP's tougher requirements."
