Mercedes reveals S 500 Hybrid pricing and specification

Date: 10 September 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Mercedes-Benz has revealed details of the pricing and specification for the new S 500 plug in hybrid, based on the S 500 L. Due on our shores in November. It will be priced from £87,965.

The new hybrid is powered by Mercedes' V6 biturbo as well as an electric motor. Combined, they produce 442hp and 650nm of torque.

Economy is rated at 100.9mpg while it emits 65g/km of CO2, making it tax and congestion charge exempt, putting it in the 5% BIK tax bracket. It is able to travel up to 20 miles on electric power alone.

According to Mercedes, the car can advise the driver on the most efficient driving style, by sending a pulse through the accelerator pedal to indicate when sailing mode - where the engine can be shut down - can be engaged.

The predictive gearchanger uses the S 500's radar system to work out if there's a vehicle in front or not, and will adjust accordingly, and the command system has been re-engineered to make sure it uses as little energy as possible.
