Mobile phone kill switch needed, says Flexed

Date: 06 November 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Mobile phones and tablets are to blame for a growing number of accidents on the road as motorists take phone calls and browse the internet, according to Flexed.co.uk.

The leasing website claimed over 150,000 drivers are convicted of phoning while behind the wheel every year, and the company believes a 'kill switch' to stop mobile phones from being used by motorists is the solution to the problem.

If caught flouting the rules, the current penalty is a £100 fine and three points on the licence, but Flexed.co.uk claimed the Government should double the penalty.

"It's not outside the realms of current technology to prevent drivers from accessing their phone functions while at the wheel, said a Flexed.co.uk spokesperson.
