Next-gen Vauxhall Corsa to launch with 85g/km CO2 model

Date: 29 August 2014

Vauxhall Corsa 2014

Vauxhall's next generation Corsa will come with an 85g/km 1.3 CDTi diesel when it goes on sale in October.

Pricing will be confirmed on October 2 but is expected to start below £10,000.

Revised 1.3 CDTi diesels will be available in 73hp and 93hp power guises. The higher-powered 93hp diesel is the more efficient of the two at 85g/km and 87.8mpg, which puts it in the 14% BIK tax band.

Fleet drivers can also choose between a new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder Ecotec turbo petrol in 88hp or 113hp outputs, as well as Euro 6 compliant 1.2 and 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated units with 68hp and 88hp.

The lower powered petrol three-door version consumes 54.7mpg on the combined cycle.

Vauxhall has said its Intellilink connectivity and infotainment system will come as standard on most models and there will be a range of driver assistance systems available.

The new Corsa will be looking to compete against the Ford Fiesta which is the most popular car in the UK in terms of new car registration volumes with 121,929 units registered in 2013.

The Corsa was the third most popular model in the UK last year with 84,275 units registered. The Ford Focus took second place last year with 87,350 units.

Vauxhall will have to increase sales by 45% in order to match the Fiesta's 2013 sales performance.
