Date: 09 January 2014   |   Author: Will Stretton

The Nissan Qashqai was named both the best small SUV and overall winner

The new Nissan Qashqai has been named What Car? Car of the Year at the 37th annual event, held in London yesterday.

The model, launching in the UK this spring, was one of 14 winners across 15 categories in the ceremony, picking up both the best small SUV and overall winner accolade. In addition, Nissan collected the Reader Award for its forthcoming X-Trail model, launching during 2014.

BMW received two trophies at the ceremony; the 435i won the best coupé and the i3 was named the best green car. Audi also had a double victory, with the A3 Saloon winning the best executive car and the A3 Cabriolet the best open-top car, while the Volkswagen Golf Estate was named the best estate car.

Nissan Motor GB managing director Jim Wright said: "We're thrilled that What Car? has named the new Qashqai as its 2014 Car of the Year. A huge amount of effort has gone into the design and engineering of the new car."
