Nissan reveals 2014 Pulsar for lower medium market return

Nissan has unveiled full details of its Pulsar, which will see the Japanese manufacturer's revival in the lower medium car market.
The new Spanish-built Pulsar is due on sale in autumn 2014 and will sit below the company's best-selling Qashqai in the model range.
The styling clearly links it to its crossover range stablemates including the aforementioned Qashqai and the new X-trail, and it features largest wheelbase in its class at 2700mm.
Its turbo-charged engine range spans from a 1.2-litre DIG-T petrol unit with an output of 115hp, with a 1.5-litre dCi that produces 110hp and 260Nm of torque.
In addition, there will be a 190hp 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine available early next year.
Maintaining performance while focusing on emissions levels has been a priority, with CO2 outputs below 95g/km. The Pulsar will also be available with Nissan's XTronic automatic transmission.
The name harks back to the original Nissan Pulsar, which was released in 1978 and remained in production in various guises until 2000.
Nissan hopes the new model will prove a match for the likes of the Ford Focus, which has proved immensely popular within the lower medium sector for the commercial market.
It is also fitted with features including LED headlamps, forward emergency braking, moving object detection, lane departure warning and blind spot warning.
Among its spec list is the NissanConnect system, which offers full smartphone integration, Google's send to car system and access to a wide variety of useful and informative apps.
According to Nissan, the Pulsar offers class-leading leg room for its size with 692mm of rear knee room.
P11D values for the range have yet to be confirmed but the Pulsar is expected to be priced similarly to the likes of the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra.
