Popularity of speed limiters increases

Date: 11 March 2014

Aftermarket vehicle electronic systems maker Cobra saw a 122% rise in speed limiter sales in the final six months of 2013.

The company is best known for marketing products such as parking sensors, alarms and tracking systems. Most of its speed limiter units have been fitted to light commercials, but some cars have also been equipped with them.

"We have had requests for tow
bar speed limiters and also for limiters just for urban use," said Cobra UK managing director Andrew Smith.

The company claimed that sales have been driven by duty of care considerations and Highways Agency plans to operate so-called 'grey stealth cameras' on motorways such as the M1, M6 and M25.
