Renault reveals reinvented Espace ahead of Paris debut

Date: 25 September 2014   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Renault has revealed its new Espace ahead of its Paris Motor Show debut next week (2 November). It will be offered in both five-seat and seven-seat formats, but will not be coming to the UK.

The French car maker is reviving the model for left-hand-drive markets after an extensive model range reduction in 2011 that saw the firm cut its UK line-up by 30%.

However, since then there has been a huge growth in the family car segment thanks to the popularity of cars such as Ford's S-Max and Audi's Q5.

The growth in the market still isn't big enough for the company to reconsider its UK strategy though. A spokesman told BusinessCar the MPV market is too small to make it viable to engineer a right-hand drive version.

"It wouldn't really work," he said. "That's why we pulled the last Espace early due to the market being too small. We have no plans to bring it here [to the UK] in the future either," he said.
