Seat to launch SUV

Date: 11 April 2014   |   Author: Martin Gurdon

Seat is to introduce an all-new SUV model in two years' time.

The VW-owned Spanish car maker's offering will enter a crowded sector, where its parent company already has a presence with the VW Tiguan and Audi Q3, but the Seat, likely to be a five-seater, will slot in below these products, and is expected to provide competition for crossover models such as the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage.

It will probably use a variation of VW's MQB platform, already found in the Seat Leon, VW Golf and Skoda Octavia, and will have a strong family resemblance to Seat's current range of passenger cars.

It is being developed in-house at Seat's research and development facility.

Chairman Jurgen Stackmann said the SUV would be an important departure for Seat, as it would take the company into a fresh market for the first time.
