Seven in ten feel comfortable with telematics

Just under seven tenths (68%) of drivers feel comfortable with telematics being installed in their vehicle.
Despite this, 72% of those surveyed by telematics company Masternaut said their vehicles were not fitted with a telematics device.
Almost one in five (17%) of the 2032 motorists asked said their work vehicles were tracked, while 11% said their personal vehicles are tracked.
The most common reasons behind not having telematics installed in vehicles include privacy (51%), not understanding the benefits of a system (18%) and not understanding how the data is used. (14%)
"In the past, UK drivers have shown a measured response to vehicle tracking technologies, which is now largely over both from a consumer and business perspective," said Martin Hiscox, CEO, Masternaut. "We mustn't be apathetic - the concept of telematics being purely a vehicle tracking technology is outdated and we need to continue talking more about the safety and efficiency benefits instead."
