Sub-130g/km for Infiniti 5-series rival

Date: 26 August 2014

Japanese premium brand Infiniti will put its Mercedes-sourced 170hp diesel engine into the Q70 executive saloon early next year, with predictions putting the emissions at a capital allowance-busting 129g/km.

The 2.1-litre unit is already used in the upper medium Q50 saloon where it achieves 114g/km, but the addition of a smaller diesel below the current 238hp 3.0-litre in the Q70 will open up the larger car to an increased audience by competing with the BMW 520d at the volume heartland of the sector.

The new engine will arrive along with a mid-life revision for the Q70 that will see sheet metal changes as well as the new power unit.
