Suzuki promises fleet charter

Date: 11 August 2014

Suzuki is aiming to improve its fleet proposition later this year with a corporate charter on aftersales, according to the brand's head of fleet Andrew Wale.

"We are launching a fleet charter for servicing to reduce SMR costs. We're also introducing longer service intervals with the new products," said Wale.

The fleet charter will launch in early autumn and is expected to include a promise to offer a collect-and-deliver service and car clean as well as regionally fixed service rates for all fleet customers through participating retailers. Service intervals on the S-cross, which rivals the Nissan Qashqai, are 12,500 miles, while other Suzukis are at 9000 miles.

Wale said he expected fleet sales to rise in 2015, adding: "We've also developed an affinity scheme, which we offer to our employees. We also offer it through our motorcycle dealers and other partner companies."
Suzuki is relying partly on fleet sales to maintain its 1.5% market share next year, despite scrapping four vehicles in its model range and only replacing two.

Product manager Ed Norman said: "We will drop the Alto and Splash, the SX4 [but not the S-cross] and the Grand Vitara. However, we will introduce the Celerio in early 2015 which is an 'A-segment plus'-sized car. It's just a bit bigger than the Alto.

"There will also be a production version of the IV4 concept car, which is a B-segment crossover coming in mid-2015."

Suzuki expects to sell 35,000 cars this year, 18% of which will be to fleets including Motability and through Suzuki Contract Hire.Smart has revealed its new Fortwo city car and has also brought the four-seat Forfour (last seen in 2006) back from the ashes to challenge the likes of the Toyota IQ, Fiat 500 and Ford Ka in the competitive segment.
