The start point for the best source of fleet information

Telematics saves fleets millions

Date: 01 December 2014

A new white paper from the Fleet Industry Advisory Group has put telematics in the spotlight, attributing millions of pounds in savings due to the technology.

The 'Telematics Explained' white paper coincided with FIAG holding its second workshop focusing on fleet use of telematics.

FIAG founding members give examples from their own fleets in the white paper, which looks at the legal implications for businesses of introducing telematics and the benefits of data collection from the in-vehicle 'black boxes'.

This includes fuel and CO2 emission savings, productivity improvements though improved journey planning and scheduling, operating cost reduction and safety improvements as a result of driver performance management.

Ged Raymond, Autoglass's fleet manager, said using telematics on its fleet of 1400 vehicles has equated to a 9% drop in fuel bills due to an improvement in driver behaviour.

Travis Perkins installed telematics across its 3300-strong fleet of LCVs and trucks and has used data delivered by telematics to "save millions of pounds year-on-year to the company's bottom line".

Geoffrey Bray FIAG chairman said: "The white paper provides an insight into the role telematics technology can play in fleet operations and across the wider business environment.

The white paper is available as a free download to FIAG members at www.fiag.co.uk.
