Tracking cuts rental firm's insurance claims

Date: 12 May 2014   |   Author: Tristan Young

Independent daily rental firm Rabbits Vehicle Hire has cut its insurance claims due to customer dishonesty by displaying its vehicle tracking information to customers.

While vehicle tracking on rental cars isn't uncommon, the information isn't usually so obviously displayed and pointed out to customers when they hire a vehicle.

According to the firm, having a screen showing live vehicle tracking, by Trak Global Solutions, in their reception deters people who set out to fraudulently hire vehicles.

Rabbits Vehicle Hire says the tracking system has more than paid for itself by offering proof that prevents fraudulent claims costs being carried by the hire company.'

"We initially installed the monitor to show our live tracking system operating as a further way of engaging with our clients," managing director Kevin Rapson said.

"We felt by actively promoting it, and not hiding Trak's system away, provided our customers with that extra peace of mind that we were always looking out for them. And that is very much the case.

"However, without question, it has helped prevent any wrongdoing. What do they say about prevention being better than the cure?"

Rapson continued: "We've lost count tof he number of times customers have walked in, asked what the monitor is, studied it, and then turned around and walked straight back out again.

"You have to ask yourself why they would do that if they didn't have anything to hide or were up to no good."
