Volvo testing three-cylinder engine

Volvo has announced it is testing a three-cylinder petrol engine, designed to meet Euro 7 emissions targets and support several different vehicles.
Once tested, it will join the firm's four-cylinder Drive-E engine - which was recently revealed in its XC90 off-roader - in displaying the firm's future model engines
The Swedish firm is no stranger to building engines, having built engines since the firm was founded in 1927. More latterly, it has developed six, five and four cylinder engines.
"The development program for the new 3-cylinder engine is very advanced and we have already begun prototype testing of the unit," said Dr. Peter Mertens, senior vice president, research & development at Volvo.
Volvo has launched a new 59g/km plug-in hybrid version of its XC90, which is on sale now.
First deliveries are expected during the middle of next year. Prices have not been announced.
The plug-in hybrid T8 is powered by a modified version of the firm's four-cylinder Drive E petrol engine, fitted with a supercharger and a turbocharger for a total power output of 318hp.
