The start point for the best source of fleet information

Yaris upgrade boosts London fleet appeal

Date: 11 August 2014

Toyota is aiming for a 50% hybrid mix of the Yaris by 2020, helped by a higher-than-average proportion of fleet business.

Speaking at the launch of the facelifted car, Toyota marketing director Chris Hayes said the overall fleet mix for the Yaris was 30%, but that this rose to 35% for the hybrid.

The Yaris hybrid is the only non-plug-in car to qualify for a 100% discount on the London congestion charge because the revised model has a CO2 emission figure of 75g/km.

"Hybrid takes one in four of Yaris sales now, but by 2020 we're aiming for a 50% take-up," said Hayes.
Toyota aims to sell 35,000 Yaris models this year and 36,000 next year.

Hayes added that while London was the main area where the Yaris hybrid was sold because of annual savings of up to £2875 on the congestion charge, this could expand if other cities copied London's emissions-based system.

Meanwhile, Toyota has retained the diesel-engined version of the Yaris to satisfy fleet demand. The diesel version accounts for 10% of the car's sales, almost all of which is to fleet customers.
