The Mitsubishi L200 is the 2016 What Van? Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year.

The award, from the UK's leading LCV magazine, rewards the new pick-up's massive improvement in interior quality, drive and, crucially for light commercial vehicle operators, efficiency.

Mitsubishi collected the coveted trophy at the exclusive What Van? Awards luncheon, held in partnership with fuel card giant Allstar at The Brewery in London yesterday (Tuesday 15 December).

The L200 also collected the Pick-up of the Year award, while Mitsubishi completed a hat-trick with the Outlander 4Work PHEV winning the What Van? Green Award.

"The new Mitsubishi L200 takes a big leap forward across the board, but particularly in the areas of interior quality, ride, refinement and, vitally for business operators, efficiency," said What Van? Editor Paul Barker. "It's a very impressive entrant into what is about to become a very competitive and crowded sector, but the quality of the L200 should stand Mitsubishi on solid ground to continue the success of previous generations of this pick-up."

There were two inductees into the What Van? Hall of Fame: the Ford Transit, which celebrates half a century of leading the LCV sales charts, while the Freight Transport Association's Head of Vans Mark Cartwright was included for his passionate and knowledgeable campaigning to improve standards among van operators.

Ford also picked up the Small Van gong for the Transit Courier, while the Vauxhall Vivaro won both Medium Van of the Year, along with its Renault Trafic sister vehicle, and Used Van of the Year. The Fiat Doblo Cargo won the Light Van of the Year, and the Iveco Daily is the Large Van of the Year.

Other winners included Mercedes-Benz, Dacia, Nissan, Citroen, DawsonRental and VFS.

"It's been another great year for the light commercial vehicle industry, and we have rewarded the most impressive, innovative and outstanding products, companies and services in the marketplace," concluded Barker.

The What Van? Awards are decided by What Van? Magazine's panel of editorial experts, and calls on their combined decades of experience in the light commercial vehicle industry.

The awards seek to reward the best products, companies and services in the industry for their ability to make life easier, cleaner, safer and more efficient for LCV operators in the UK.
