40% of business drivers have points on their licence

Almost four in 10 of business drivers (39%) have been accrued on their licence from work-related driving offences, according to new research from telematics company Masternaut.

According to the firm's data, 62% of those points resulted from speeding, while other offences include driving without reasonable consideration for other road users (15%), driving without due care or attention (14%), traffic-light offences (14%) and dangerous driving (10%).

Almost three-quarters of the 2000 company car drivers surveyed were confident they could pass their driving test again, while 70% said they know all the laws of the road.

However, half of the business drivers surveyed said driver training would make them better and safer drivers.

"There's a worrying number of business drivers on our roads who are driving in a manner that is serious enough for them to have points put on their licence," said Steve Towe, chief commercial officer and UK managing director at Masternaut.
