80% of business drivers admit to motorway speeding

Eight out 10 of company car drivers have admitted they speed on the motorway, but a vast majority (79.2% total) still consider themselves to be law-abiding drivers, research from the RAC's business arm has revealed.
According to the breakdown company, 81% of business users admitted they regularly break the 70mph speed limit, and when asked if they consider themselves to be a law-abiding driver, 90% said yes.
Meanwhile, 64% of motorists believe the speed limit on motorways should be upped to 80mph, while a quarter of drivers admitted to regularly travelling at 35mph in a 30mph zone.
"When you drive as part of your working day and are running late for meetings, it can be very tempting to break the speed limit," said Jenny Powley, corporate business sales director at RAC Business.
"It's worth reminding drivers that the risks associated with speeding can far outweigh the time saved. After all, driving at 80mph instead of 70mph will only save you six seconds a mile, or 10 minutes over 100 miles," she added.
