Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has secured a contract to supply 500 Transporter medium vans to the AA, including 70 4Motion all-wheel drive models.
The AA said key factors in its decision to add the Transporters to its fleet included the vehicles payload capabilities (which is up to 1310kg), safety features and an adaptable load area.
The Transporters - a mix of T5s and T6s - will be painted in the firm's yellow hue at Volkswagen's Hannover factory, while the vehicles will be fitted with specialist racking to accommodate the AA's tow system, tools and equipment.
"Our members rely on us throughout the year for efficient roadside recovery, therefore when looking at manufacturers to bolster our fleet we took into account vehicle performance, value for money and servicing packages," said Sarah Millward, commercial director of AA road operations. "The Volkswagen Transporter was an ideal fit for our fleet thanks to its drivability and load space combined with the reliability of Volkswagen engineering."
