The start point for the best source of fleet information

Allstar adds SMR card payments

Date: 08 April 2015   |   Author:

Fuelcard giant Allstar is adding service, maintenance and repair functionality to its offering, and is promising discounts of up to 20% compared with the retail cost of the work.

Launching later this month, around 4000 repairers will accept an Allstar card as payment, but that figure will grow to a targeted high of up to 9000 over the next couple of months, according to Peter Bridgen, UK managing director of Allstar parent Fleetcor's fuel card operation.

The discount will vary up to a maximum of 20%, depending on the level of labour or parts involved, and Bridgen told BusinessCar the new service is aimed specifically at SME operations that are more likely to buy outright rather than lease, so won't necessarily have SMR cost wrapped into their vehicle costs, such as larger fleets that tend to lease.

"We're not competing at the top-end corporate level. Lease companies have their offering and we complement that," he said. "A customer can go into a garage they use right now and pay for SMR work with Allstar."

Allstar has around 35,000 account holders, the vast majority of which, according to Bridgen, are SME operations, and he said there are around 200,000-250,000 vehicles that could "take advantage" of the new SME offering because they are not tied into leasing maintenance agreements.

The eventual coverage of around 9000 outlets is around half of the service and repair facilities in the UK, according to Bridgen, who said Allstar had tried to target major conurbations.

"We'll get the main dealers on. It shouldn't be a problem in the majority of cases, although there will always be a number that for whatever reason we can't get," he continued, claiming most of the 9000 sites will be manufacturer dealer groups or "independents of a reasonable size".

Allstar's site locator app for fuel sites will be updated to include service facilities, and also be searchable by car or commercial vehicle offerings to cater for Allstars's LCV business.

Fleetcor also owns servicing management specialist Epyx, and Bridgen said Allstar has used "knowledge and expertise" from its sister company, although there is no formal tie-up between the two. He also said Allstar could work with both Epyx and Fleetcor-owned telematics firm Masternaut to "leverage Fleetcor's capability in the UK" and offer further services integrated with the fuel card.
