The start point for the best source of fleet information

Average used car down by £14 in August, says BCA Pulse

The average price of used cars sold at auctions in August fell by £14, the monthly BCA Pulse report has revealed.

However, year-on-year values are ahead by £162 compared to this time last year, with the vehicles showing 1226 fewer miles on the odometer compared to August 2014.

Used fleet and lease vehicles averaged £9646 in August, dropping by £14 (0.1%) compared to July, the remarketing giant said, however, average values are up by £55 in comparison to a year ago.

BCA claimed that the last six months have wielded the six highest average values on record for the fleet and lease sector, while average values for dealer part-exchange cars fell slightly by £25 to £4243 with year-on-year values remaining ahead by £211.

"The short term prospects suggest that volumes will rise from mid-September onwards as greater numbers of dealer part-exchange and ex-fleet vehicles begin to reach the wholesale markets," said Simon Henstock, BCA's UK operations director.

"While the best quality stock - the Condition 1 and 2 cars - will continue to attract a lot of buyer attention and achieve strong prices as they have done all year, it is the poorer presented vehicles that typically feel the price pressure.  If the market conditions tighten then these vehicles will need to be competitively priced if they are to be sold," he added.
