BMW and Sixt expand DriveNow fleet

BMW and Sixt's DriveNow car-sharing scheme is expanding its fleet with the addition of 30 all-electric i3s.
The new vehicles will be used for car sharing across north and east London, and DriveNow says it will be more cost-affective in "non-rush-hour traffic" than using taxi company Uber or black cabs.
BusinessCar revealed that BMW and Sixt were teaming up to create DriveNow in December 2014 and the new i3s are in addition to the car club's existing pool of 240 BMWs and Minis.
Cars are available for pick-up and drop-off anywhere in the boroughs of Hackney, Islington, Haringey and Waltham Forest. Further expansion into adjoining London boroughs and more UK cities is planned, with Birmingham and Manchester likely targets.
DriveNow has been working with Transport for London and the Mayor of London's office to encourage greater uptake of car clubs in the city.
Customers can join DriveNow for a one-time registration fee of £29 and can then use an app to locate and open the nearest car.
Using a customer card can also open cars. The rental firm said customers only pay for the minutes they drive - at 39p a minute with an hourly cap of £20 - and will be able to drop the car wherever they want in the capital.
