Budget 2015: Chancellor announces Severn Crossings toll reduction

Date: 18 March 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

The chancellor, George Osborne, has announced the toll rates for the Severn Crossings will be reduced from 2018, with the higher band for small vans and buses being abolished altogether during today's Budget announcement.

Currently, car drivers pay £6.50 while small buses and vans weighing up to 3.5-tonnes pay £13.10 to cross between England and Wales.

"The Severn Crossings are a vital link for Wales," the chancellor, George Osborne said. "It's a boost to drivers of white vans."

In August 2014, the Freight Transport Association claimed the toll was the most expensive in the country.
