BVRLA Fleet Technology Congres: Survey reveals fleet confusion

Date: 13 July 2015   |   Author: Tristan Young

Only a third of fleets would class themselves as early adopters when it comes to new fleet technology, according to a survey by the BVRLA, with half reporting that they are confused by fleet tech changes.

The survey of BVLRA, Association of Car Fleet Operators and Institute of Car Fleet Management members, carried out for the BVRLA's annual tech conference, showed that 58% of fleets would wait until there is a clear return on investment before buying into new technology, while, unsurprisingly, 59% said it is difficult to quantify the benefits of new technology. These proportions are similar to the number that believe there is not enough data gathered on fleets at the moment (53%).

The vast majority of fleets (79%) believe that more data would lead to reduced running costs. However, 84% think the data needs to be selective.

The research added that the three main benefits of improving technology in fleets were lower costs, improved optimisation and reduced accident rates, but warned that regulatory burdens, data security and connectivity costs would slow new tech adoption.
