BVRLA launches new risk alert system

Date: 16 September 2015   |   Author: Tristan Young

The BVRLA has launched an all-new version of its Risc software that allows members to search for details of prospective renters and log problems more easily and faster.

The new software, developed by Nexus, is now cloud-based allowing real-time updates. It has also been designed to allow integration with leasing and rental companies own internal systems, although it can be used as a stand-alone tool.

Commenting on the revised Risc platform, BVRLA director of member services, Nora Leggett said: "Risc is now an even more powerful loss prevention tool for our members. Opportunistic fraudsters and high-risk customers have become adept at sharing information to exploit vulnerable businesses. The collaborative environment of Risc will harness the power of the BVRLA community and help safeguard valuable assets."

A BVRLA spokesman added: "The revisions made to Risc make it easier for members to search for details of prospective renters and log new incidents of problematic customers. A heat map of the UK shows members where risk activity is being reported in real time, whilst the BVRLA can monitor incidents to issue general alerts on everything from identity fraud to a spike in the number of renters showing up with authentic-looking utility statements from bogus websites."

The spokesman added: "The system is not just for rental companies. With the lines between what's a long term rental and a short term lease being blurred, the system is also useful to leasing companies."

The BVRLA pointed out that the Risc software is not a black-list, but more an advisory system to allow members to make more informed decisions about who they rent cars to.
