Enterprise acquires City Car Club for undisclosed sum

Date: 01 April 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Rental company Enterprise has acquired City Car Club, Britain's largest independent car sharing club for an undisclosed sum. It includes the firm's 800 vehicles, 45 employees and 30,000 members.

Enterprise said the deal "strengthens Enterprise as a leading player in the UK's sharing economy". Enterprise currently operates its own car-sharing scheme - Enterprise CarShare -, which is aimed at public sector organisations across the UK.

City Car Club operates in 17 cities around the UK and Enterprise said in the short-term, the brands would continue to work separately with a view to creating a combined entity in the future.

Enterprise said City Car Club would support demand for car sharing and mobility services across businesses as well as for leisure motoring.

"As a privately owned business City Car Club already shares many of our values - in particular, our enthusiasm for innovation that genuinely drives customer service and delivers against customer needs. City Car Club even uses the same type of in-car technology as Enterprise CarShare," said Enterprise vice-president Brian Swallow.

"Beyond the Government's stated aim to enhance car-sharing, people and businesses are turning to rental as a simple and environmentally-responsible way of making journeys. Enterprise aims to provide all varieties of mobility and car sharing is an increasingly important part of the mix, particularly in cities," said Swallow.
