Europcar launches car hire app

Date: 20 March 2015   |   Author: Daniel Puddicombe

Rental company Europcar has launched an app which lets customers book, unlock and drive hire cars using a smartphone without visiting a hire car counter.

Known as ToMyCar, the system is launching in four locations: Heathrow airport, Manchester airport, Edinburgh airport and ExCel in London.

Europcar claims the service offers a guaranteed rental car with an all-inclusive package. Once the car has been reserved, a confirmation email is sent as well as a link to download the app, a username and password.

The app highlights the pick-up location of the vehicle on a map, which is then accessed using a downloaded key via the customer's smartphone.

Europcar said damage to the vehicle could be recorded and reported via the app.

"ToMyCar harnesses the latest mobile technology to put our customers in control of the car hire process. They can locate and unlock their hire car with their smartphone, eliminating the need for picking up the keys at the desk and returning them after the hire," said Ken McCall, managing director, Europcar.

"ToMyCar is the latest service from Europcar, designed to keep our customers on the road with maximum convenience and minimum delay," said McCall.
