BMW has revealed its new X1 crossover ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt motor show. It is due on sale in the UK this autumn.

No prices have been announced yet, but the current model retails from £24,230.

The most efficient model in the in the range is the new sDrive (front wheel drive) 150hp 18d model. It emits 114g/km of CO2 and returns 65.7mpg. The more powerful, four-wheel drive xDrive20d sneaks in under the 130g/km barrier, emitting 128g/km of CO2.

All new lower end models are now front wheel drive and high-end models are all-wheel drive. It means that there are no longer rear-wheel drive options for the X1.

Boot space has increased by 85 litres to 505 litres, increasing to 1550 litres with the rear seats folded.

The exterior has been updated slightly - the X1 now features LED daytime running lights and angular headlights.

The new X1 is fitted with the firm's iDrive infotainment system as standard. It features a 6.5-inch touchscreen, a navigation unit and an aux-in socket.

Other standard-level equipment includes air conditioning, an automatic tailgate, a forward vehicle control warning and a city collision mitigation tool.
