Mercedes has revealed its new C-class coupe ahead of its release in December. Pricing and specification details are yet to be announced.

From launch, four petrol and two diesel engines will power the new C-class coupe. Efficiency figures have not been revealed yet, but the German car maker claims the new engines are up to 27% more efficient than the outgoing model's powertrains.

Diesel-wise, Mercedes is offering a 156hp 1.6-litre unit and a 184hp 2.0-litre oil-burner, while the petrol engine line-up consists of the similarly powerful 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre motors along with 211hp and 245hp 2.0-litre units.

Standard safety kit includes the firm's Attention Assist feature which warns the driver of drowsiness, Collision Prevention Assist Plus which features acoustic warnings for drivers above 7kph (4.3mph) and Adaptive Brake Assist.

This braking system can also carry out autonomous braking at up to 200km/h to help reduce the severity of collisions with slower vehicles. At speeds of up to 50kph (31mph) the system is able to brake in response to stationary vehicles and is able to prevent rear-end collisions while travelling at speeds of up to 40kph (24.8mph).

The new C-class also features the firm's Connect Me package of remote online services including eCall, accident recovery and breakdown recovery. Optional extras include vehicle tracking and a remote door locking and unlocking feature.

The air conditioning unit also uses the sat-nav to automatically close the air circulation flap when entering a tunnel, re-opening it again after exiting the tunnel.

Mercedes claims its media system's listening experience is "almost on a par with a concert hall", while the sat-nav features an animated compass and Google Maps displays on the heads-up display.
