BMW has revealed the 2-series Gran Tourer, a seven-seat version of the 2-series Active Tourer that arrives in the UK in June.

A range of engines, all of which bar one duck under the 130g/km CO2 emissions barrier, include the most efficient 216d powered by 116hp three-cylinder diesel unit, which emits 108g/km of CO2 and returns 68.9 mpg.

Petrol-wise, the most efficient model is the 218i, which gets a 136hp three-cylinder unit, emitting 123g/km of CO2 and returning 53.3mpg.

BMW confirmed that the third row of seats will come as standard with the Gran Tourer and that if the seats are not needed they can be lowered into the load area floor to save space, with the loading surface remaining level.

The 2-series Gran Tourer is available with four trim options - SE, Sport, Luxury and M-Sport.

As standard it features Bluetooth, the firm's iDrive system, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, automatic rain sensors and the firm's Collision Warning with City Braking system, while the Sport and Luxury trim levels adds sports seats for the Sport model and leather seats for the Luxury  model as well as  bodywork detailing and different 17-inch alloy wheels.

BMW has not announced the price increases for the various trim levels, but expect more information after the Geneva motor show where it is due to make its debut.
