Citroen's upmarket, and now independent, DS brand has unveiled its facelifted 5 model ahead of its debut at the Geneva motor show next month. It will go on sale in July.

Five engines power the DS5, with the most efficient conventional unit being the 1.5-litre 120hp diesel, which drops by 2g/km to 100g/km of CO2 compared to the current DS5, and returns 74.3mpg.

The firm's 200hp diesel hybrid engine is also retained, and DS claimed its CO2 emissions now drop under 100g/km, equating to over 80mpg.

Styling-wise, the DS5 removes all traces of Citroen badging and features a new front grille, which incorporates the firm's 'DS wings' logo, which supposedly extends as two shafts of lights into the LED headlamp design.

Inside, DS said its new colour touchscreen interface removes 12 buttons on the dashboard and facia. The touchscreen also features a function, dubbed Mirror Screen, that lets users copy smartphone content onto the screen.

The firm's MyDS Apple/Android app is also compatible with the technology, with drivers able to receive a range of vehicle-related information through the app.

The DS5 also now features blind spot monitoring as standard, joining the lane departure warning system.

"The new DS5 is more than just a new car. It is the car introducing our brand identity. Sixty years on from the original DS, the new DS5 carries all the genes of DS, said Yves Bonnefont, CEO of the DS brand. "Above all, it is a clear statement of our ambition: to revive the tradition of French premium vehicles."
